How to Kill Your Distractions

You know the feeling. You’ve prepped yourself to buckle down and start crossing things off your to-do list. It’s a mile long, and it just keeps growing. You’re finally in the right mindset, and you’re ready to fly. You’re entirely geared up to knock out your list, and you’re 100% prepared for that feeling of relief and satisfaction you’ll have at the end of a full productive day.

Then the phone buzzes — it’s a text message—your laptop dings with a new e-mail. Your phone lights up with a new Slack message. An employee walks into your office with an important question. Your phone rings – it’s a non-work-related call. It would help if you had a cup of coffee. You have to use the bathroom. You’re starting to get hungry. Before you know it, the whole morning is blown, and you don’t have anything to show for it.

Unfortunately, distractions are one of the leading killers of productivity. You have things coming at you, and many of them are keeping you from focusing on what truly matters. While you’re busy with these distractions, you’re not accomplishing anything. So how can you eliminate these distractions and get to the most important stuff?

Here are 5 tips to get rid of the distractions and get back on track.

Tip #1: Make Plans the Night Before

Making plans the day before can be a beneficial trick to help you stay focused on the following day. You don’t have to plan out every decision but make choices about simple things that might be distractions during the day. For example:

● What you’ll wear for the day

● What lunch you’ll eat

● The way you’ll get to work.

When you’re tired in the morning, these decisions will probably be harder to make and can easily occupy your thought processes. You can also set a rough schedule for yourself. For example, you may decide that you won’t check your e-mail or answer text messages until you’ve completed two essential tasks. From 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., you’ll focus solely on a specific project.

Tip #2: Cut Out Social Media

It’s now estimated that people are spending 2 hours and 22 minutes a day on social media. That’s a great start if you’re trying to reach customers, but a terrible one for productivity. Yes, social media can be a necessary resource for marketing and sales, but:

● Constantly checking your personal notifications

● Taking the time to respond to various rants

● Endlessly scrolling through pictures on Instagram

Isn’t going to help your business. Social media is a black hole and a significant time suck. Notifications, and social media in general, can be incredibly addictive.

Here are some strategies to help you manage your social media time:

● Set a schedule for when you’ll go on social media – for example, between 10 – 11 a.m. and 4 – 5 p.m.

● Use built-in tools like “iOS Screen Time” and “Android Digital Wellbeing” to monitor or restrict social media use on your phone.

● Turn off all non-business-related notifications, so you’re not feeling the constant pull of “dings” distracting you.

Use your business social media accounts to engage with real customers, tweet about your newest products and most beautiful pictures. After that, put your phone away and focus on your other tasks.

Tip #3: Create Boundaries

On any given workday, you’ll have to field essential calls. There may be some lines of communication that are necessary to your workday, but there are others that can be set aside. Give yourself periods during your day when you don’t check your phone, e-mails, or Slack messages. Some entrepreneurs choose the early morning to return e-mails and engage with customers on social media. Others choose to focus on their list of tasks before creating new jobs introduced by outside messages. Choose the rhythm that works best for you but ensure that you stick to it. It’s vitally important to set times of the day when you’re not in constant contact with outside interruptions.

If possible, it’s also a good plan to leave at least one day a week when you’re not scheduled for a meeting. This can give you a free day to complete tasks and stay productive.

Tip #4: Create a Productive Space

If you’re working at home or in an office, it’s crucial to create a space where you can feel productive. Productivity produces productivity. In other words, if you were effective in a particular room, your brain will want to be productive there again. You’ll find and associate that place with the good feeling that you had the last time you were able to crush it at work.

Likewise, if you have a specific space that you associate with entertainment — perhaps the living room where the TV is — you’ll want to do those fun things when you’re there. Keep your fun places, and your workplaces separate and make your workspace conducive for work. If you want your workplace to promote work, keep it tidy. A cluttered or messy space will distract you. Even if you don’t feel like you have to clean it up, the disorganization will keep you from getting to your tasks. Keep your workplace simple and easy to maintain, and ensure that it has a door so you can shut out distractions when necessary.

Tip #5: It Can’t All Be Work

While there are a few successful individuals who are truly all work and no play, most human beings aren’t geared that way. We’re not meant to be. Psychiatrist Stuart Brown, the founder of the National Play Institute, understands the importance of taking time to play. In his book Play: How It Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination, and Invigorates the Soul, he writes, “The truth is that play seems to be one of the most advanced methods nature has invented to allow a complex brain to create itself.”

Play opens up a person for creativity and relieves us of our heavy workloads. Some workplaces like Google even have built-in areas at work for play. These spaces are meant to foster creativity and reduce stress in the workplace. Dr. Brown also explains in his book: “…there is a kind of magic in play. What might seem like a frivolous or even childish pursuit is ultimately beneficial. paradoxically, a little bit of “nonproductive” activity can make one enormously more productive and invigorated in other aspects of life.”

golf

1. Make work enjoyable. Find ways to make the things you do at work pleasurable and exciting as opposed to drudgery work.

2. Plan to have breaks during the day. Walk around the building, eat a good lunch, or take a coffee break.

● It may seem like these things are distractions on their own, but when coupled with more intense work sessions, they are simply something to work forward to.

3. Choose a quitting time. Choose a part of the day to set aside work and be finished. It’s imperative to have time set aside in the day to give attention to friends and family.

● It’s also essential to enjoy relaxation, play, and leisure. This gives you time to bounce back from the workday and start fresh the next day.

4. Take a vacation—plan for certain times of the year to be non-work times. Enjoy your relationships with others and find ways to have fun. Set aside the phones, e-mails, and messages and focus on the other things in life that matter to you. You may never be able to cut out all distractions, but limiting them can significantly enhance your chances of success. Reduce social media, limit communication, and make time for play, and you’ll soon see that your productive periods are a lot more successful.

1. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a fantastic way to get started making money online. You can get started with it right away. Essentially, affiliate marketing works like this:

● You promote an online product or service created by someone else.
● If some purchases a product or service through your promotion, you get a commission or portion of the sale. Typically, you promote the online product through a unique link that is connected to you. That way, the company knows that the sale came through your promotion.

You might be thinking, This sounds great, but how exactly do I promote these products? There are numerous ways to promote the products. Your imagination only limits you.

You can:

● Write reviews of products on your blog and include affiliate links
● Have banner ads on your website promoting the products
● Post affiliate links on social media
● Promote products to your email list

For example, you could write a blog post about the top 10 hiking shoes.
Or you could have a banner ad featuring hiking shoes on your website.
Or you could post links to deals on hiking shoes on Facebook or Twitter. Or you could let your email list know about a great deal on hiking shoes.

If you have an audience, whether that be on social media or through a website, you have the opportunity to make money through affiliate marketing. One of the reasons affiliate marketing is such a great way to make money online is that you don’t have to create any products.

You’re simply selling what someone else already created. You’re a promoter, and if someone purchases through your promotion, you make money. Creating your own products can be tremendously difficult, and affiliate marketing removes that difficulty from the equation.

The best affiliate marketers can make thousands of dollars each month through their efforts.

2. Sell Products Online

There are numerous ways to sell products online (even if you don’t manufacture one yourself). Before you can sell products online, you’ll need a website on which to sell them. If you don’t want to set up your eCommerce store, you can easily sell products on:

● eBay
● Amazon
● Etsy
● Poshmark
● Craigslist
● And many others

If you want to sell products on your website, you’ll need to go one step further and create an eCommerce website on which you can list your products and accept payments.

3. Sell Your Services on a Freelance Basis

There’s a good chance that you have
certain skills that you can sell online on a
freelance basis.
For example, are you a…
● Designer
● Writer
● Translator
● Assistant
● Bookkeeper
SEO Expert
● Voiceover Artist
● Audio Engineer
● And more
If so, then you can sell your services
online. There are literally hundreds of
thousands of businesses that need these
services and you can make good money
working for them.

4. Become an Online Coach

This is somewhat similar to freelancing but with a bit of a different flavor. If you have significant knowledge in a particular industry or area of expertise, you can package your knowledge and sell it.

In other words, you’re selling your expertise as opposed to a product or service.

What sort of coach could you become? The options are endless.
You could be a:
● Health coach
● Life coach
● Music/vocal coach
● Finances coach
● Executive coach
● Sales coach

There are also several ways to package coaching services. You can offer:

1-on-1 coaching
Group coaching
● A course with accompanying coaching support
● Or other formats that would work for your field

5. Create Online Courses

Online courses are a fantastic way to monetize knowledge that you already have. And unlike coaching, which requires regular meetings with a small number of clients, you can sell your course to hundreds, if not thousands of people. The good news is that you can create a course around almost any subject and find people to purchase it.

For example, you can find courses on many topics, such as:

● Losing weight
● Learning to play the piano
● Painting
● Singing
● Creating a budget
● Investing in stocks
● Running
● Tennis

The list goes on and on.

To create a course, you need a platform to distribute it. There are many ways to create and distribute a course:

● You can create an email course in which all the lessons are delivered via email.
● You can build a course that’s primarily text-based and involves more reading.
● You can create a video course where you film yourself teaching.
● You can create a hybrid text/video course that features a variety of resources. You need a method for getting your lessons into the hands of your eager students.

Several platforms make it very easy to create courses, enroll students, and accept payments, such as:

● Teachable
Thinkific
● Kajabi
● TalentLMS

These platforms allow you to upload a variety of materials, including video, audio, and text.

One way to get an excellent feel for what a course should look like is to take a few courses yourself. Udemy offers thousands of classes for relatively low prices. Consider taking a few lessons in your niche for ideas about what to include in your course.

6. Create YouTube Videos

7. Write and Sell a Book

8. Start a Blog

9. Become a Virtual Assistant

10. Tutor People in English

11. Sell Stock Photos

12. Do Odd Jobs on TaskRabbit

Top 10 Best Practices for SEO Success

You can do plenty of things to get higher search engine rankings, from page optimization on your website to keyword research, building backlinks, and more. Even though the search engine algorithms that determine rankings change often, there are still tried and true SEO methods proven to help you rise higher in the rankings throughout these changes. Here are the Top 10 best practices for SEO success:

1. Ensure that your website is secure.

Most people today are concerned with the privacy and security of the websites that they visit. Consequently, this is also a crucial ranking factor in search engines. A secure website will consistently rank higher than one that isn’t secure.

Talk with your web host or web manager about the type of security that is most appropriate for your website. A security certificate will ensure that your content is delivered by SSL (secure socket layer). With SSL, your website will start with an “https://” instead of “http://,” and the little lock icon will show up next to the web address in many browsers.

2. Add your primary keyword early into the content.

Including your keyword early on lets the search engines know what your content is about.

Additionally, sprinkle the main keyword throughout the rest of your content too. This will tell the search engines that this term is essential, which will help you rank well for this term.

3. Use unique titles, descriptions, and content.

This lets the search engines know that your content is original material and can add further knowledge to the other information that can already be found on the internet about your topic.

4. Optimize your title tag for SEO.

Always include your main keyword in the title tag for your website, and if possible, put it at the start of the title. This will give priority to your keyword.

5. Ensure that your website loads quickly.

It would be best if you made your website load as quickly as possible. Especially with the advent of smartphones, loading time is an essential ranking factor in search engines.

Compress the size of images, remove any unneeded code, and consider using a content delivery network (CDN). If you use a CDN, your website will serve images and other media from servers that are close to your audience, thus cutting down on the loading time. Many web hosts now use CDNs to deliver content for their clients’ websites.

Talk with your web host or your web manager about this priority. If you have a WordPress site, many plugins help you speed up the loading time for your website.

6. Optimize any images.

You can do this by giving the filenames descriptive names. Using image alt text is also recommended so that the search engines can understand what images are present on your website. Properly optimized images can boost your website rank.

7. Use internal linking.

The key here is to link to your main pages. So, any smaller pages can link to a larger, authoritative piece. This will help to increase the rank of the more important page.

Try to use the main keyword, or a variation of it, in your internal links to ensure that the search engines know what the page is about.

8.Create amazing content.

Write high-quality content that answers questions that your readers might have about your topic. If you can answer a question in less than 1,000 words, that is fine. However, it’s worth noting that it’s essential to be thorough with any answer, so you may want to write considerably more than this amount. Many of the highest-ranking pages include longer, authoritative content.

9.Build backlinks to your website.

Despite what you may have read online that backlinks are no longer necessary, please note that backlinks, when done correctly, are still vital. They show the search engines that your content is valuable enough for other web admins to link to. When you first start your website, you may want to go slow when building backlinks.

After a few months, you’ll be able to ramp up your efforts. With this strategy, you want to obtain links from other important websites in this field. Links from low-quality websites that accept advertising from anyone to any website are likely to hurt your search engine rankings.

10. Look at the user experience.

If you find that visitors are struggling to navigate your website or have a high bounce rate, when people leave your website after just a short time, take a close look at your user experience. Perhaps your visitors aren’t finding the answers they’re looking for, or maybe your website is broken somehow. See what you can do to improve the overall experience of your visitors.

Following these Top 10 SEO best practices will enable you to achieve higher rankings in the search engines. The higher you rank, the more traffic you should be able to achieve, and ultimately the more sales you will make.

You, Me, and Affiliate Marketing A Review of Wealthy Affiliate

You, Me, and Affiliate Marketing A Review of Wealthy Affiliate

A Review of Wealthy Affiliate

In my search for making money online, or through blogging. I ran into a few walls. I was a beginner, and I couldn’t find anything that fell into the ‘how to learn affiliate marketing for beginners’ category… until I found Wealthy Affiliate.

What Makes Wealthy Affiliate Different?

Kyle and Carson are the Founders of WA. I have found them to be the ‘open book’ type guys. They’re upfront and honest.

You can remain a Starter Member for as long as you want, but you will lose one or two features after the first 7 days. (Chat, and community forum participation, etc.).

You can still access the Free Training, which packs tons of information in that you will need to be successful, and you get 1 free Website.

To Go Premium or Not?

You decide. With Premium, you have access to 10 Websites (Free)! All in! I’ve paid upwards of $500 elsewhere for the same features… True Story! (And yep, I’m a tad choked about it)!

Added Training

It never stops at WA!! There’s Training for just about everything Web-related!! From how to Build a Website, E-Commerce, Social Media, maximize your site, and beyond!!

Wealthy Affiliate will show you how, where, and what you need. You just have to bring your willingness to learn!

You will not:

1. Make huge money overnight

You will:

1. Need to want to learn

2. Need to Invest your time

The WA Promise? To give you the Training, tools, and support needed to become an Online Presence.

journey

Other Affiliate Sites

In my reviews here, I will not mention the ‘other’ names or websites. I will tell you the tactics I saw, the small print, and what I didn’t like, but not their names and sites. You may be asking why.

The answer… that’s just not who I am. It’s not my style. You will find negative reviews on every Affiliate or Online Marketing promotion you can find. Remember, they are trying to promote their own training program, just as Wealthy Affiliate does as well.

Site 1

Here’s training that ‘claims’ to be worth OVER $10,000.00, but you can get in for $97.00 today, and today only! But Wait, don’t go… We are offering this to only a few people today for $27.00!! Congratulations!!

I download the free w book of Top 12 Niches for 2019… these are, have been, and will be the Top Niches forever! Nothing new here.

What the heck, I’ll save you the download time (no particular order):

1. Health

2. Fitness

3. Self-help

4. Illness and Cure

5. Enhancement Products (generally a dangerous category)

6. Internet Marketing

7. Grow a Business

8. Adult Content or Dating Sites

9. Money

10. Protection of Assets

11. Make Money

12. Investing

13. Cryptocurrency….. (That’s a bonus one for you).

It’s no Secret that many of these are on the top, and will stay there. OK, so there you have it… let’s go back to the ‘offer’.

If you act on the $27 offer you get in. Otherwise, it’s $97. Sounds good so far. Then, as you read the excited reviews, and success, you find that people are PAYING $5000.00 a month (investment on potential Profit)!!

So I ask, what if it doesn’t work? What if I pay my Investment money of $X thousand, and no return?

And what are they paying for? You have to join to find out. That means, pay, proceed, and maybe earn.

Site 2

Open an Online Store. This has potential. The problem? Very little support and training provided in your monthly fee. You have to pay extra for that.

The product can take forever to be shipped, and often runs out quickly.

While they can be successful, you do need to know how before committing to it.

How do I know this? I had 2 Online Stores. Both were hot niches, I had traffic, I was making sales… then it happened. No product delivered. I was forced to refund the money and lost money in this venture. I did gain a learning experience!!

Site 3

Pay $X and receive $5000 in your first month!! There’s no explanation of how you make the income, just invest your money, and you will make HUGE returns. You have to pay the amount they ask for before finding out how to make the return. I ‘fell’ for it, and scheduled a call. The mere ‘investment’? $12K… yep $12,000 for them to teach me how to do Online Marketing. You can potentially make your ‘investment’ back in 3 to 6 months, was the closing argument.

These are generally Ponzi style or Pyramid. The only people making money are at the top.

Site 4

I really want to tell you who these guys are, but darn it! It would ruin my ‘personal rules’ for this post!

This site is full of negative reviews about other programs, especially Wealthy Affiliate. The hook? He was a member!! That’s his pitch!

I watched his video, and I will quote some of his drivel:

“My clients have to pay me month after month, or I will sell their leads to a competitor”.

“My clients cannot fire me, because if they do, I will sell their information.”

“Create false locations for clients.”

“After everything is set, I can ignore the client, and move to a new client.”

There is no information on what his training costs. You have to schedule a recruiting call to even get in the door. That sends up red flags for me now.

I am now done my RANT…back to my original thoughts on:

LapTop Rebel

Wealthy Affiliate

I signed up to the free training with little hope, but I had the time, so I figured… why not? What’s the absolute worst that can happen? I waste my time… again!

Amazed! Oh my, yes indeed! And we’re not talking 10 minute sound bites… it’s full of training! More than enough to get started!!

I had a better understanding of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Keywords, and Google Ranking than I ever had hoped I could get!

I was SOLD. I paid for a ‘Special Month’ offer of $19 to access everything the platform offered, and I will be honest… MIND BLOWN!!

Here’s what the Banner ad doesn’t tell you:

The Community & Coaching

From younger to older, we are a community. The help that we give, and receive, throughout, is nothing short of phenomenal! You have a question, there will be an answer!!

You will have me as your coach, as well as everyone else on the platform! And this includes Kyle, Carson, and Jay!! That’s over, at last count…100,000+ Coaches! I’m not kidding… we help each other out on a daily basis!

Weekly Webinars

Every Friday Night at 6 PM Mountain Standard Time, there is a Live Event known as WAbinars. These are recorded, and in the ‘Library of Knowledge’ (That’s my personal term for it). This is where Jay, our Live Trainer, teaches us the ways of the internet, Google, Bing, online marketing, and building websites… plus so much more!!

And So Much More (But No Free Steak Knives)!

There is so much more! I feel as if I’m doing a disservice, to you dear reader, in that I cannot make a full list. (That is NOT meant as ‘Click-Bait’… it’s just the truth of it).

Time Investment

Earlier I mentioned a Time Investment. This is a flexible idea. Some people spend 3-4 hours a week on WA, for others, it’s a full-time gig.

In my case, I am self-employed, and when I’m not working on clients, I’m usually in Wealthy Affiliate creating, researching, building, and working.

Making Money with WA

Your next question is pretty obvious now. Am I making money? I joined WA in July 2018, so 9 months ago by this post date. The answer to your question… NO, I’m not. (Keep Reading)…

This was a personal choice on my end. I wanted to learn as much as I could BEFORE I started to promote niche products, Affiliate Marketing, and I have been working tirelessly on a project on my original niche site.

That was my choice to not dive into the money aspect and earnings. People are making part-time/ extra income, full-time income, and beyond.

I could go into great detail on who has made what within the Community here, but seriously, until you try it, see it, and meet these people, why would you believe something you read here?

That would be me being ‘that person’ in the mentioned Site Scenarios that I listed. I would be promising you the Sun, Moon, and Stars, just because I can type it… or video it.

Thank You for your time in reading this! Feel free to ask questions, in the comments section below, or check out the WA Free Training and decide from there!

Content Marketing Blueprint

What is Content Marketing, and why do I need to know about it?

Content Marketing gives your site value and authority within your respective niche. Without it, you have a great website with not a lot of traffic.

With a Content Marketing Blueprint, you will get an idea of where to start your Online Entrepreneurship!

What’s more, you need to know where content marketing is heading in the near future and how you can ensure that the work you put in now keeps paying dividends long into the future.

Content marketing doesn’t only ensure greater loyalty and gives you a big
audience to sell to, though: it also gives you more impact and authority.

Content is what will help your new visitor to discover your site.
They will search for a specific topic, and your site will come up in the search results, or perhaps they will see a post from you on Facebook that a friend has liked. Either way, they’ll then click on the link and read your site, but this alone isn’t going to be enough to turn them into a real fan.

The Logistics and Numbers

The next question is what you need to do on a day-to-day basis to grow your site and build that trust. How often do you need to post? Which types of content should you provide? How long is an ideal blog post?

The most popular type of content marketing, by far, is written. In other words, content marketing here involves writing regular blog posts and articles and then posting them on a blog or website. This provides a base where your viewers can come to enjoy your content, and it will allow you to benefit from the SEO that comes from regularly adding content to your website. It also means you can then share your posts on social media to build a following that way and direct even more traffic to your site.

But written content is just one form of content marketing. Other options
include:
Video
Live video
Podcast
Images
Quizzes/Tests/games
Music
Each different kind of content has its advantages and disadvantages, and
depending on your audience and your goals, you will take a different approach to regularity, length, etc.

Frequency

The very minimum you should be posting then is once a week. If you do
This, you should also post on a consistent day and make sure that you are always on time.

But while you can get by on one post a week, this is very much not the best strategy. What is far preferable is that you aim to produce multiple blog posts in a single day. Failing that, you should aim for at least one blog post a day.

Length

In terms of length, most SEOs and marketing experts now recommend
aiming for longer-form content. Anything that’s 1,500 words and over
will be able to provide much greater depth and much more insight
compared with something that is just 500 words.

As such, these longer posts tend to be better at creating trust and authority, and they also tend to be shared more. They additionally have a greater chance of ending up in Google’s curated ‘news’ section – which is fantastic for increased visibility and more visitors.

The only problem is that writing one or more posts a day at 1,500 words
becomes an impossible task for most brands and most bloggers even. Thus a better strategy might be to aim for shorter content – perhaps 500-700 words – for most posts and then write a few longer ones.

Creating the Best Content

Adding content to your site alone is not enough. What is essential is that said content represents value. If it does not, then you might as well not bother.

So how do you ensure that the content on your site is top quality
and that it is good enough to make sure visitors want to keep returning and that they will consider buying from you?

Your aim is to provide value but what’s also important is that you do this in
the shortest time possible. This way, your blog post is an even higher value.

Why? Because for a free piece of writing, the only cost to the visitor is
time. The amount of time they spend reading your post is time out of their day and time they could have spent doing something else.
So if they manage to get all the same value from your blog post, but it takes them half the time to get it practically, they have gotten twice the value.

This is just as though they had purchased a product for half price that
provided all the same value as the full-price option.

This is true of all writing, so this should clarify you into the first hallmark of a good writer: brevity. Or rather not brevity so much as efficiency. A good writer will communicate what they need to say as quickly as possible, with no need for fancy wording or round-about sentences. If you want to make a sentence better, the best way to do this is to read through it and remove the superfluous words.

And this is especially true when it comes to the web in general and digital
marketing specifically.

Want to learn more?

I’m giving away the full course!!
Why?
Truthfully, I want your email address, BUT I don’t want to SPAM you!
(Seriously, I hate spam)!
I do want to keep you informed of upcoming courses, posts, and ideas in the future though.
I’m also looking for Guest Bloggers, and cross-post sharing ideas!

15. Frequently Asked Questions

There are probably specific questions that come up again and again in your business. These are the questions that people email you or that consistently come up when you host live events. Inevitably, you end up repeating yourself as you answer these questions again and again.

Instead of answering the same questions over and over, why not create a Frequently Asked Questions blog post in which you give in-depth, definitive answers to the questions?

When creating your FAQ blog post, try to be thorough and answer as many questions as possible.

Your goal is to create a resource to which you can send people again and again. A document that will stand the test of time. When they email you with a question, you want to say, “Here’s a document I created in which I answer that question.”

If you don’t feel like creating one long FAQ document, you could write a series of blog posts to answer one commonly asked question in each post. That way, when someone asks a specific problem, you can point them to a particular post.

However you do it, be sure to answer the questions in as much detail possible. You don’t want people sending you follow up emails with more questions after they read your post. You want to try to answer each question in as much depth as possible.

Over time, you can add to your FAQ post as people ask more questions. It can be a “living document” of sorts, which continues to grow, change, and evolve.
